The Story of Artanis by Artanis

Origins & Early Days

Well, where to start to cover everything …

My first interaction with Project Entropia was through my friend’s father. I believe I was around 13 at the time, so I wouldn’t count it as “true gameplay,” since the game was unpublished and in rough shape. We just played like kids – all over the place.

Later, when I was around 16–17, I started playing on my first avatar when the game officially released, which I believe I kept until around 2003–2005. Then, after the bitterness of no returns and a limited ability to deposit, I sold out and stopped playing for a few years.

Return, Testing & Discovery

Upon returning around 2008–2009, I created a new avatar that I played for quite a while. During this time, I did a lot of testing of the game systems with in-game friends to find proper ways to profit and to understand how the game actually functions. I believe it was during this period that we discovered butt sliding and bugs connected to it, as well as mob stacking on server borders. All of it was reported, of course.

That avatar was also eventually sold due to drama in-game. Back then, scammers were more common. Some would pretend to be your friends for months – in one case, even for two years – just to gain your trust and scam you. Due to the complications, I prefer to keep this partly undisclosed, but I lost that account and all PED tied to it for quite some time.

Investigation, Reputation & Burnout

After about a year, the investigation concluded. The account was unlocked and I received an apology. But in my mind, the reputation was soiled. I didn’t feel like playing anymore. Bitter from what had happened, I sold out again and left.

Some years later, I created another avatar focused mostly on mining. Eventually, I brought hunting and other skills up to around 650,000 – back in the days when no pills or skill bonuses existed. That was quite an achievement. I played properly, invested both time and money, and in the end, it paid off.

Data, Cycles & the Loot System

Over the years, we built a solid group of people. We tested all professions on very large sums and long cycles to collect meaningful data and understand how loot behaved. Our goal was to construct a solid “math” behind the game’s inner workings.

By large sums, I mean millions and millions of PED cycled per player to run these tests properly. For hunting tests alone, we cycled roughly 15 million PED. Our conclusions were basically aligned with what Messi later posted on the forum.

With version 2.0, we saw impact of all factors (dpp – among most important ones, effi, looter, dps, etc). Compared to 1.0, loot was much more stable. But markup – then and now – remains king. With higher DPP, we observed more markup gains and more rare loot instances across all test sets. But I’ll talk more about that on stream.

Real Life, Exit & Return Again

Eventually, real life took over: wife, kids, a business of my own. Time became limited due to the real-life grind. I sold out and closed my avatar because I needed the funds for life outside the game. When I withdrew and cleared my skills, I saw a good profit from playing – which helped a lot in real life.

As I always say, Entropia is my personal Hotel CALYfornia (referring to the Eagles’ song). You can check out any time you like – but you can never leave.

So, I told myself: I have all the knowledge needed. I understand the proper long-term approach — as fun and investment – not as a get-rich-quick scheme. I created Artanis and promised myself: this one I’ll build properly and never sell out. Skills will always stay, built with care, and minimal gambling.

Never say never — but that’s my current stance.

The Temptation of Gambling

Of course, drunk nights and fun with friends happen – and suddenly there came the explosive projectile gamble. It turned out to be quite troublesome. I prefer not to disclose every detail, but after we ATH’ed, it ended on a positive note.

Immediately after hitting that ATH, I sold the blueprint and told myself: no more gambling like that.

Although … I keep that rule reserved. Occasionally, I’ll gamble just for the thrill and the adrenaline. And now, sometimes, it’s also to create fun content for you.

The Social Side of Entropia

There are many ways to approach this game. My take is simple: some people go out for drinks with friends, spend a couple hundred bucks, and have a good time. I don’t see any difference doing the same here. Take one of those nights out and try it in Entropia instead.

Sit with friends, grab a drink, and drop some PED on something fun that lasts longer than the drinks do. After all, in real life and the world in general, fun is always something you pay for.

The Game That Gives Back

Entropia is the only game that gives back for the time you invest. You get skills for everything. Sooner or later, you’ll get a lucky hit. You invest in gear, you play – and eventually your account gains real value.

All the while, you’re having fun with friends and building something meaningful. It’s like forming a savings account made from the fun and experiences you’ve had.

There are good times and bad times. But just like real life, I view the whole thing as a sine wave: sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down. You grind through the lows to enjoy the highs even more.

Mindset & Motivation

There are other opportunities if you think like an investor – but that’s too broad a topic to tackle here (planets, land areas, motherships, hired hunters, miners, crafters, etc.).

As for mentality: you might not like what Messi said – but the core of it is true. Just like in life, people only see the end result. No one sees the sleepless nights, the grind, the sweat, and the tears that went into getting there.

There are two types of people, both sitting at a café bar overlooking the sea. They see a beautiful yacht. One type says, “Look at that lucky guy, enjoying life while I sweat here like a peasant.” The other says, “Wow, must be nice. What do I have to change and do in my life to accomplish that?”

It’s all a matter of perspective — what mindset you adopt, and what you’re willing to sacrifice.

Once again, as in real life: people look at a successful company and rarely ask what hardships the person had to endure. It’s easier to justify your own laziness by saying, “He was just lucky.” But from my experience as a business owner, I can say – it’s almost never luck. Luck rarely plays a major role. And when it does, anything gifted is usually wasted.

Success is the byproduct of hard work and the grind. Your hard work may occasionally put you in a “lucky” position – but without the work, you’ll never reach it.

Same in-game. If you want to accomplish something, roll up your sleeves, do your best, and never give up. You will get there. That’s something I strongly believe in – in both real life and in-game.

Streaming & Why I Do It

At the time of writing, I’ve played on my current account for about 11 months. I’m quite happy with what I’ve achieved. I’m using everything I’ve learned over the years to maximise my playtime for the PED I invest, and the fact that I’m profiting is just a bonus to the fun I’m having.

I started streaming because I saw there was no real information out there. Mostly, it was wild theories and money-chasing content, promising people they’d get rich overnight – which I consider complete nonsense. I was infuriated when I came back and saw the toxicity in rookie chat. Not just that – but the misinformation being spread was ludicrous. The game is pure math and code. Why attach magical thinking to it?

So I figured: why not build some good karma, help people who genuinely need it, and bring more people into the game – which, I believe, is still incomparable to anything else on the market. While doing that, I also teach them how the system works and how they can turn it to their advantage.

Shortly after, we became the most-watched Entropia stream on Twitch. I heard a lot of great stories and heartfelt thanks. It was nice seeing such positive feedback from something I started just as a hobby. So I decided to keep going – and here we are.

The Game’s Future

Entropia has its own economy, which is similar to real life, except the scale and turnover are different. The number of players directly impacts it. That makes it more manageable – and I think MA currently has a good grip on keeping things balanced. It was looser before, but now it feels more stable.

I’ve seen every major change: the transfer to Entropia Universe, the X-fire integration attempt, CryEngine 2, SGA – and every time, people said the same thing: “It won’t succeed.” Now UE5 is coming, and again people say the same.

But this time I believe it will be different. There are talks it might release on the Epic Games platform (since UE5 is owned by Epic), which would introduce the game to their user base of 750–800 million players. That has never happened before – and that’s why I have high hopes for what’s to come.

Even if it’s just an engine upgrade, UE5 is much easier to build on. Anyone with time can build a game just from YouTube tutorials. In the CryEngine 2 days, that didn’t exist — it was a closed circuit. So I’m very much looking forward to what the game becomes in the future.

In my honest opinion, things can only get better 🙂
